PILC receives Manitoba Human Rights Award

12/12/2018

On December 10 2018, the Public Interest Law Centre (PILC) was awarded the 2018 Aaron Berg Award at the annual Manitoba Human Rights Awards. The award is given to a member or group within the legal community who has demonstrated a commitment to advancing human rights in Manitoba through their legal work.

December 10th is International Human Rights Day and this year marks the 70th anniversary of the United Nation’s Declaration for Human Rights. The day celebrates the significant progress that has been made globally in promoting and protecting human rights and recognizes the ongoing need to continue efforts to advocate for the dignity and freedom of everyone.

In honour of International Human Rights Day, the Manitoba Human Rights Commission, the Canadian Human Rights Commission and the Manitoba Association for Rights and Liberties held an awards evening to honour Manitobans who have made significant contributions to promoting respect for human rights and equality.

Thank you to Leanne Fenez for the thoughtful nomination, and to the Manitoba Human Rights Commission, Canadian Human Rights Commission and the Manitoba Association of Rights and Liberties for the honour of receiving the Aaron Berg Award this year.

Congratulations to Brielle Beardy-Linklater and Daniel Thau-Eleff who were also honoured this year!
